High-precision infrared thermometers use bicolor ratio technology to measure the temperature of a target. The bicolor ratio technique gets rid of the dependence on absolute energy measurements and allows for effective measurements under the following conditions:

  1. The target is partially obscured. 
  2. The target being measured is smaller than the pyrometer's measurement field of view.

Another advantage of bicolor thermometry is that the measurement results are close to the highest temperature in the measurement field of view, rather than the average temperature. Even if the target no longer fills the measurement field of view, the bicolor pyrometer can be installed farther away, thus avoiding situations where the target size and distance factor force the pyrometer to be installed at a specific distance.

Principles of operation


Infrared temperature measurement basis
Any object has infrared radiation, radiation intensity changes with the temperature, infrared temperature measurement using thermal radiation in the wavelength range of 1μm-20μm.
The intensity of radiation from an object depends on the material of the object, we use a known constant to characterize the emission of infrared radiation from various materials, which is the emissivity.

Two-color mode
The two-color measurement of temperature depends on the ratio of the energy at the two infrared spectral wavelengths of the target. The two-color mode is particularly useful for measuring targets that are locally occluded, either intermittently or all the time. Examples include the presence of other objects that obscure, openings, slits, attenuation of energy by viewing windows, and the effects of dust, smoke, and moisture in the atmosphere. The two-color mode can also be used to measure target temperatures that cannot fill the measurement market, but the background temperature must be much lower than the target temperature.
Highly accurate infrared thermometers all consist of the following components: optical lens, infrared filter, two-color detector, amplification and processing electronic circuitry, and a NEMA-4 (IEC 529, IP65) compliant enclosure. Ensures reliable operation in strict industrial environments. Outputs standard current signals for connection to computers, controllers, recorders, alarms, and A/D interfaces.
